My name is Heather Sandy, and this is my 25th year teaching Spanish, and my third year teaching at U-High. I am excited to come to school everyday because I am very passionate about what I do. While students are being exposed to another language, they are also being exposed to other cultures and how to respect the diversity that exists among all people around the world.
When I am not at school, I enjoy playing and watching tennis and golf, reading, gardening, watching movies, listening to music, cooking, and traveling. I have a Master's degree in ESL (English as a Second Language) and a Master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages). I enjoy learning how people acquire languages and what it means to be culturally aware.
I lived in Salamanca, Spain as an undergraduate student through the University of Cincinnati and in Santiago, Spain as a graduate student through the University of Northern Iowa. Since traveling is a passion of mine, I have been to Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Ecuador, Portugal, Canada, Belize, the Cayman Islands, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Poland, and Russia. I have also been to half of the states in the United States.

We need to help students and parents cherish and preserve the ethnic and cultural diversity that nourishes and strengthens this community - and this nation.
